EARTHQUAKES IN MURCIA

In Spain there are about 2,500 earthquakes a year, of which only averaged about two a month are felt by the population, according to the Spanish Seismic Network.

Murcia is in the most sensitive area to earthquakes in Spain.

During the afternoon of May 11th in less than two hours, two earthquakes have shaken Lorca, but have also been felt in Cartagena, Aguilas, Mazarrón and its own capital of Murcia.

At 17:05 there was an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on the Richter scale and 18:47 another earthquake of magnitude 5.1.

These earthquakes have caused nine deaths and 326 injuries, and are 542 affected buildings.

The conclusions that have left these earthquakes, is that Spain is not prepared to undergo seismic movements because the earthquakes in Murcia (one of the most seismically active places registered) have caused a lot of damage.

Demonstrators who are camped out in Madrid's Puerta del Sol will disregard any unfavorable ruling coming from the state's Central Electoral Board.

The group “Real Democracy Now” is spearheading the so-called May 15 Movement organized to express anger at the political parties, big business and rising unemployment. Organizers are asking Spaniards to boycott the Socialists and Popular Party (PP) at the ellections.

"From here we need to strengthen and improve what in countries that have achieved higher levels of democratic freedom is considered the mainstream," he said.

Most of the demonstrators are young people- part of Spain's so-called Lost Generation because of the financial crisis- but the middle-aged and elderly have also turned up.

"We are here because there is not one party that represents us," said one junior high school student.

People also gathered in the main squares in other Spanish cities, such as in Barcelona, Granada, Seville and Valencia. There are at least 57 so-called "Sol campsites" that have popped up across the country in solidarity with people in Puerta del Sol. Spaniards living abroad have also set up camps outside Spain's embassies in Berlin and London, and in Amsterdam's Dam Square.

I´m going to talk about ETA and the Spanish justice. ETA is a terrorist Group formed in the Basque Country in 1958, during Franco’s dictatorship. It is a separatist, nationalist and marxist group. To achieve their goals, ETA has committed numerous murders and terrorists attacks, although in 2006 pacted the `ceare-fire´, but didn´t have any results.

The latest news about this band is that they are connected to Bildu and the `case Troitiño´.This case is the release of a person from ETA alfer 27 years in jail, but this person committed 22 murders and was sentenced to 2700 years in prision. This contrasts with another situation, Miguel Francisco Montes, who has been over 35 years in jail for minor crimes.

In conclusión, these events should rethink the situation of the judicial system in Spain.

These processions are very important at Easter, as it is the date when they are held.

These processions involve different people grouped into religious brotherhoods. So the “brothers” walk on the streets accompanying their brotherhood, while carrying images of Christ or the Virgin that represent passages in the Passion. The members made the stations of penance wearing robes and pointed hoods.

Around 1,700 people were evacuated and four were treated for smoke inhalation, from one of Spain's most popular tourist attractions on Tuesday, after a suspected arsonist started a small fire inside Barcelona's Sagrada Familia basilica.

Local police said a 65-year-old Barcelona resident was arrested after a group of tourists raised the alarm when they saw smoke coming out of the basement of architect Antoni Gaudi's unfinished masterpiece.

Catalan Police official said the suspect was found with a lighter and pieces of fabric that could be used to start the fire.

The 45-minute fire caused "significant" damage to the sacristy, where priests store their vestments prior to Mass.
